Osteopathy & the alternative therapies

Osteopathy and the alternative therapies work on the principle that good health and physical fitness are based on the wellbeing of body and mind. Osteopathy is the examination of the skeleton, muscles and bodily tissues and their functioning and seeks to rectify and resolve issues without the need for medicines or surgery. Together with the brain, the backbone is key in the smooth running of an individual’s central nervous system, and the aim of osteopathy is to address any bodily dysfunction by tracing back the problem to it’s source.

Chronic constipation, for example, may be resolved by relieving nerve blockages in the spine. Heart problems are often linked to the fourth thoratic nerve system which provides the aortic controls. Different problems can be treated with a number of different approaches, using the hands, and treatments are often in the form of a short course of sessions.

In addition to Osteopathy, other alternative therapies include: acupuncture, kinesiology, aromatherapy, Buteyko, chiropody, reflexology, homeopathy, hypnotherapy, Reiki therapy, Sunflower therapy, and Chinese herbal therapies. Alternative ‘talking therapies’ include: Cognitive behavioural therapy, neuro-linguistic programming, Gestalt therapy, person centred therapy, Cognative Analystic Therapy and Transactional Ananlysis. These therapies can be used to address a wide range of problems such as asthma, arthritis, migraines and depression.
