The Perrin Technique

Kendal House Clinic osteopaths have decided to bring The Perrin Techniquetm to the clinic for the treatment of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS/ME). It is an osteopathic approach to diagnosing and treating this debilitating disease.

The Perrin Techniquetm was developed by Dr Raymond Perrin, himself a practicing osteopath in Manchester. The effectiveness of this approach has been tested using two separate clinical trials.

The Perrin Techniquetm is based on Dr Perrin's theory that different stress factors, whether physical, allergic, emotional or infectious, lead to an overstrain of the sympathetic nervous system. Further investigation has led to a probable cause of trouble in this nervous system being a build up of toxins in the fluid around the brain and the spinal cord. The toxins are meant to drain down the spinal cord and into the lymph ducts lying along the spine and in the breast tissue. In CFS/ME sufferers these normal drainage points are congested.

The sympathetic nervous system spreads throughout the entire body, affecting every type of tissue and the messages from all the tissues e.g. skin, muscle, blood vessels, glands and lymph vessels etc. This latter forms an important network of small channels carrying lymph. The lymphatic system is basically a secondary waste disposal unit within the body, which flushes out the waste products of the cells that are toxic to us. The fluid mobility in the lymph is helped by pressure from the blood flow in the surrounding blood vessels and so lymphatic tissue will be enlarged with fluid if the blood circulation is not working properly. The sympathetic nerves have a pump which can malfunction in CFS/ME sufferers. The resulting backflow further enlarges the lymphatic vessels especially in the chest and neck.

The Perrin Techniquetm osteopathically stimulates the fluid motion along the lymphatic channels, manipulation of the spine aids drainage out of cerebral spinal fluid, massage of head, neck, back and chest direct the toxins into the blood where they can be properly detoxified in the liver. With no poisons affecting the brain and sympathetic nervous system, normality returns providing patients do not overstrain themselves. To see patients return to their normal healthy lives see the film "The Perrin Techniquetm"

To enrol on a course of treatment you will require two 1-hour sessions, followed by a course of ½-hour sessions. Your first 2 sessions are to take your personal case history, examine and diagnose your condition, discuss how the technique works, show you your self-help schedule, and treatment.
