Osteopathy
Hilary Percival - Senior Partner
Diploma Osteopathy, British School of Osteopathy 1988 Courses in Cranial-Sacral work and pædiatrics
Hilary chose to study osteopathy because the principle of using the facts of anatomy
and physiology to work out a diagnosis and treatment of each person made great sense to her.
As most osteopaths are self employed it would allow Hilary to be in charge of her own
destiny and to build on her own reputation. Hilary studied at The British School of
Osteopathy in London. The four year full time course offered a good basic training,
providing a good solid cover of subjects on which to build, osteopathy. Hilary was lucky
enough to be taught by one of the best osteopathic technicians Laurie Hartman.
He greatly influenced her work by teaching her gentle techniques. Osteopathy is the application
of intelligent fingers.
The other great influence was osteopath Clive Hayden. On a visit to his practice in
Gloucestershire Hilary was amazed at the children who were being treated. How could
structural osteopathy help these children? Hilary was to start a life long passion on
treating children with cranial technique.
After graduating in 1989 Hilary worked in a practice in the South Lakes. She spent
one day a week with Tim Marris - who works with cranial-sacral technique. Within a few
months of graduating Hilary was back at school studying the cranial-sacral technique
at Post Graduate level. The learning of this technique has gone on for 1-2 weeks a year
since that time. It has taken her as far a field as Paris to study with
Dr Viola Fryman. The cranial work has developed into the teaching of it with The
Sutherland Society who originally taught her.
Hilary's love of children has encouraged babies and children to use osteopathy to
help them get the best out of their lives, whether it is to relieve the pain of colic,
to nurture the special needs of children, and encourage dyslexic children. Our patients
were astounded when children came in to the clinic, Hilary was asked frequently if she
found children's problems upsetting ~ but it is never upsetting when you can help these
children reach their own special potential. There are very few children who cannot
improve by having the mechanics of their own body in harmony.
In the early 1990's Hilary made the trip down to The Osteopathic Centre for Children
in London working there once a month or more. It gave her the confidence to treat
children no matter how ill they are.
Hilary was also doing more and more work with the media especially Radio Lancashire.
This led her to work with The Osteopathic Information Service, finally becoming their
chairman for a short while before the birth of her son.
Hilary and Robin's son Edward has been another influence in quest to see children given
the chance of osteopathic treatment. It has solidified ideas and helped her to give more
support to parents when their child won't sleep, or have ear problems etc. Hilary treated
Edward when he was a few hours old.
Due to the prevalence of glue ear in children in the North West of England, and in their
son Edward, Hilary and Robin have studied a self-help technique for treatment of the ears.
It has revolutionised the help we can give children and parents. We use it regularly at home
for ear and sinus problems in the winter months, we teach to classes of six people or on a
one to one basis.

Robin Percival - Senior Partner
Diploma Osteopathy & Applied Kinesiology, British School of Osteopathy 1988
After going to university to study biochemistry Robin decided to change tack.
He visited an osteopath for some treatment and was inspired by his experience.
Robin studied at the British School of Osteopathy. This gave him a good grounding
in medical sciences at the same time giving a broad osteopathic base on which to build.
After leaving college, Robin went to work with one of the most experienced osteopaths
in the North West, the late John Blackman. This gave plenty of training at dealing with
acute patients. Robin enjoys the challenge of getting people better through using his
broad education to diagnose, give good lifestyle advice and treatment.
To this end in 1996-1997 he undertook Applied Kinesiology training.
This provide yet another diagnostic tool to use alongside osteopathy.
It can be used to access lots of different body systems.
Robin uses it to help both adults and children.
Robin has also undertaken cranial-sacral training courses with The Sutherland Cranial
College. He has used it not only to treat cranially but refine all his osteopathic
techniques to be gentle, minimal and effective. Since the birth of his son he has felt
more confident to treat babies and children.
It has been a great pleasure to have other osteopaths working as associates in the clinic.
As Robin works closely with our associates he has undertaken a City and Guilds Osteopathic
teaching certificate. This has allowed him to help our associate osteopaths in developing
osteopathy at Kendal House Clinic.
Robin has been instrumental in developing and running our satellite clinics.
Longridge at Maria's and Berry Lane, and in Barrowford. Although he now only works in the
Barrowford and Clitheroe clinics he has an active interest in the Longridge clinics.

practitioners. On returning to the UK he enrolled at The British School of Osteopathy
and soon became involved in one of the school's community clinics - providing osteopathy to children with emotional and
behavioural difficulties.
Daniel has an interest in sports injuries and provides pitch-side assistance for one of the local rugby teams.
Daniel has studied Classical Osteopathy under John Wernham, who at 99 years old must be the oldest practicing osteopath in
the world! This provided a firm basis in the founding principles of osteopathy, which was developed before modern medicines
as a system for treating all manner of diseases by supporting and assisting the body's ability to heal itself.
